Gettysburg of the West
Step back in time and witness what it was like when the north and south fought against one another during th e Civil War. Talk to reenactors about the aspects of life in 1862, from the battles in the eastern states to the western territories, like in New Mexico, to how the food was prepared over a fire instead of modern stoves.
Yes, the Civil War was fought this far west, though most history books don't relay that information. Witness the recreated battles of Apache Canyon and Glorieta Pass as Union and Confederate forces clash. Talk to the civilians present about what was done during the Civil War to help at the various posts. See how camp life is portrayed as it might have been during the Civil War.
Please come to the wonderful living history museum just south of Santa Fe, El Rancho da las Golondrinas, during the weekend of May 5th and 6th, 2012 and help us honor the men (and women) who fought for their beliefs 150 years ago.
